AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has strongly condemned the unethical action taken by the Vigilance Department at the house of Shiromani Akali Dal senior leader and former cabinet minister. Bikram Singh Majithia, terming it as a step inspired by the Punjab government's arrogance and political enmity.
Advocate Dhami said in a statement that in a democracy, arresting any public leader in a bullying manner is highly condemnable.. Majithia is not only a political leader, but also has a good reputation among the people in family and social circles. His wife Bibi Ganiv Kaur Majithia is also a democratically elected sitting MLA, despite which the arrogant intrusion into the Majithia family house without any notice reveals the low thinking of the government.
Advocate Dhami said that intimidating daughters and sisters, mistreating them and behaving disrespectfully with an elected representative is against Punjabi culture and moral values.
He said that if any investigation or inquiry was to be conducted, legal procedures should be adopted for it. Violation of democracy and moral values exposes the spirit of vindictiveness of the police administration and the government.
The SGPC President has emphasized that the law should be followed in the state, and not misuse of powers under the guise of personal grudges and revenge.
