AMRITSAR: Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, president of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), has taken stern notice of the ban on the use of kirpans by Amritdhari Sikh workers at airports in India.

Advocate Dhami termed the recent notification by the Government of India in which Sikh employees were barred from wearing the part of Sikh Kakaar inside the airport wearing Sri Sahib, as a blow to Sikhs.
Advocate Dhami has written a letter to Civil Aviation Minister of India Yotiraditya Scindia in this regard expressing strong objection and urging immediate reversal of the decision.

He said that in his own country this discrimination was a major attack on the religious freedom of the Sikh citizens of the country which would never be allowed to take place.

He said that Government of India should never forget that Sikhs have been at the forefront in making sacrifices for the freedom of this country and if the culture of the country survives today it is because of Sikhs.

He said that it was unfortunate that Sikhs who were dying for the country were being pushed in their own country. He said that the governments should refrain from such things which could hurt the religious sentiments of the Sikhs.

Meanwhile, Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami, President of the SGPC, has also expressed deep concern over the growing discrimination against Sikhs in the United States.

He said that Sikhs have made a great contribution in the development of many countries of the world including USA. Sikhs have made their mark in the world through their hard work and with their hard work and talent many Sikh faces are in high positions abroad.

He said that Sikhs in all parts of the world have rendered great services in times of crisis without any discrimination. But sadly, even in a country like the United States, incidents of religious discrimination and hatred against the Sikh community are on the rise. He appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India to ensure the safety of Sikhs abroad.
