AMRITSAR: Punjab State Women's Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill today organized an open court at Amritsar Police Lines to listen to the problems of women and directed the police officers to resolve the complaints on the spot.
It is noteworthy that in today's Lok Adalat, 35 cases were heard by the commission and 30 more cases received were also heard on the spot.
Talking to the media, the Chairperson said that the commission will go to every district and resolve the problems faced by women.
Chairperson said that the affected women are not able to reach the commission in Mohali, therefore, the commission listens to the problems by organizing public hearings within the districts and tries to resolve the grievances on the spot.
In response to the questions of the press, he said that there is no political pressure on the commission and the commission investigates the cases impartially.
Raj Lali Gill said that the increasing cases of live-in relationships are worrying for our society.
On the occasion of the Lok Adalat held here at Police Lines to hear the problems of women and provide them justice, Raj Lali Gill said that boys and girls and even many married men and women are being pushed towards this evil of live-in relationships which is eating our society like a worm, which needs to be avoided.
She said that she is writing to the state government to amend the law on this matter.
Chairperson Raj Lali Gill heard about 35 cases during this Lok Adalat and directed the police investigating officers to re-investigate most of the cases.
She said that the Punjab State Women's Commission believes that any aggrieved woman should be given a full hearing and that she should be provided with rational justice in a time-bound manner.
In response to a question from the journalists, Raj Lali Gill said that the Women's Commission is very strict in the matter of using foul language against women, therefore any ordinary or special person should refrain from using any kind of foul language against women.
Responding to a question about political pressure on the Commission, she said that the Commission does not allow anyone to be pushed and is fulfilling the goal of providing justice to the victims in a transparent manner by playing the role of mediation in all cases without any political or other pressure.
Chairperson Lali Gill said that since she took office in March 2024, more than 2500 cases have come for hearing, out of which 70 percent have been disposed of.
She said that today, cases related to marital relations, property-related, NRI marriage, dowry, exploitation of girls and women, live-in relationships, domestic violence, etc. had reached her.
Raj Lali Gill said that at present, due to intolerance and lack of tolerance, disputes and conflicts are increasing in families.
She said that the increase in old age homes is also worrying for our society. Along with the Chairperson, Deputy Director of the Commission Nikhil Arora, SDM Khushpreet Singh and other senior police officers were also present at the Lok Adalat.
