MUMBAI: New Year’s Eve is right around the corner, and this is the time of the year when all we care about is bidding farewell to the year with a bang. But if a party city is what you’re after, then Bariloche is not it. Though it boasts of quite a few interesting clubs, its quiet aura and unique sights is what makes it so popular.
Think of warm, beautiful weather, smooth beaches stretching out as far as the eye can see, colourful and kitschy clubs and the amazing feeling of being in the middle of nowhere, and you’ll think of Bariloche, a small Argentinean town in the province of Rio Negro, located at the foot of the Andes.
While not yet a crowded tourist destination, the attraction is picking up quite fast, mainly due to its amazing weather, unique wildlife and unbelievably delicious food. If you choose to spend a couple of days here, then there are a couple of things you absolutely have to try out!
Route Of The Seven Lakes
The Route Of The Seven Lakes drive is an amazing and wonderfully scenic 248km round-trip that follows a windy road past four of the seven magnificent lakes, charming towns, green forests, tundras, and even a waterfall. Along the way you’ll also pass through charming little towns that are truly a sight to behold and will take you back to a much simpler time. Definitely a must-do whenever you visit Bariloche.
Adventures Galore
Kayak, mountain bike and trek the mountains and lakes of Bariloche as you explore its amazingly beautiful sights and unique wildlife. While this doesn’t sound like your typical New Year’s Eve, just imagine the spending the night on top of a towering mountain or camping on the banks of a river. Magical is the word that comes to mind.
Nightclubs
While Bariloche is a haven for nature lovers, it’s not completely devoid of fun for the party animals. With a large variety of nightclubs, of all shapes and sizes, and several well-known discos, to choose from, you can party New Year’s Eve away in true Argentinian style. Here, the party doesn’t truly start till 3am and refuses to actually end.

The Best Of Chocolate!
While Bariloche is definitely known for its amazing cuisine, it’s especially famous for the chocolates. Known as Argentina’s chocolate capital, there is something special for everyone. Whether it’s the annual chocolate festival, the aptly named Avenue of Chocolate Dreams or the special, artisanal chocolates the town’s famous for, no sweet tooth will ever go back disappointed.
“Bariloche is an idyllic place that’s picking up as far as tourism goes, yet is still quite unexplored, which really adds to its charm, ” says VirenBatra, co-founder of Nirvana Travel.“And while it’s not your typical New Year’s destination, we personally recommend it as it’s not an experience you’ll ever have elsewhere, though it’s truly a must-visit any time of the year.”
