CHANDIGARH: Former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh was defeated by AAP candidate Ajitpal Singh Kohli with a margin of 13037 votes.
Captain Amarinder Singh had floated Punjab Lok Congress and formed an alliance with BJP. However people rejected him due to his disconnect with the residents of his constituency. He was confined to his Siswan home during 4 and half years of his government. His relations with Pakistan journalist Aroosa Alam were also an issue in these elections.
Ajitpal Singh Kohli is son of former SAD minister Surjit Singh Kohli. He had jloined AAP after resigning from SAD a few days before filing nominations. He was polled 33142 votes.
