Bikram Majithia appeals to people of Amritsar East to vote for change, development and hope

AMRITSAR: Former minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia today appealed to the people of Amritsar East to vote for change, development and hope by ridding the constituency of the anti-people, anti-development , casteist and communal Pradesh Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu who had done nothing for the constituency since the last eighteen years.

“The fight for Amritsar East is a fight for the honour and respect of the people of this constituency. It is also a fight for development of this constituency. Let us take this golden opportunity by rising above caste and communal lines and support the SAD to change the fortunes of this constituency”, Mr Bikram Majithia said in a press conference here.

The SAD leader also clearly spelt out his agenda for the constituency asserting he would bring in concrete change, unlike Navjot Sidhu who talked about the Punjab Model but had done nothing for this constituency which was one of the most neglected and backward constituencies in the State. The occasion also witnessed the SAD candidate securing the support of the Focal Point Labour Bhaichara and the Pravasi Mazdoor Sangathan. Both organizations condemned the Congress party for insulting the Pravasi community and assured to vote overwhelmingly in favour of the SAD.

Giving details of his pro-people agenda, Mr Majithia said all roads in the constituency would be repaired and relaid and sidewalks would be constructed. He also announced that a comprehensive project would be launched to ensure potable drinking water, LED street lights and sewerage facilities in the entire constituency. He said high tension wires would be removed from congested localities and underground cables would be installed.

Mr Majithia said “I am also committed to developing parks, playing grounds and at least three sports hubs in the constituency”. He said the ‘ganda nala’ would be covered and a road would be made on it. He also announced that all schools and hospitals would be upgraded and that primary health centers would be established to cater to the constituents.

In another big announcement he announced the beautification of the area around the Golden Gate (Daburji) besides bringing the Shivala temple into the religious tourist circuit of the city by beautifying it and creating road infrastructure to ensure easy access to the temple. He also announced that the Vallah vegetable market would be upgraded, the railway bridge at Vallah and the under bridge at Jaura Phatak would be completed. He also announced that the Mudhol village would be developed as a model village with all modern amenities including a large park. He also announced that the Jahazgarh transport nagar would be shifted out of the city and that fifty acres of land would be provided to establish a modern facility. He said the industrial focal point would be upgraded and an ESI hospital would be established for the welfare of the labour.

Expressing his desire to mitigate the suffering of the weaker sections, Mr Majithia said special camps would be held immediately after the elections to restore all old age pension and aata –daal cards which had been scrapped by the Congress government. He also announced that the enhanced Shagun benefit of Rs 75, 000 would reach families of brides of weaker sections one week before their marriage. He also announced that all money would be allocated immediately for constructing ‘pucca’ houses of all tenements of Ekta Nagar immediately after the formation of the government.

Mr Majithia also assured that good governance would be brought back in the State and ‘goondas’ would be reined in. The occasion also witnessed Gurcharan Singh and Dilbagh Singh highlighting how Congress goons had disconnected their electricity connection and even taken away their meters for announcing their support to Mr Majithia. They however announced that they would not be cowed in by such desperate threats and would continue to support the SAD.
Senior leaders Gurpreet Singh Randhawa and Gurpartap Singh Tikka were also present at the press conference.
