AMRITSAR: Senior BJP leader Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina was today appointed as in charge of Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency to oversee party’s political activities in the parliamentary segment. His announcement was made during Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Chandigarh.

Chhina, who contested the 2017 Amritsar Lok Sabha by-election, said he would work to strengthen the party at the grass root level. He said while he was thankful to the party’s central leadership and BJP state chief Ashwani Sharma, he wanted the party’s booth level cadre streamlined and its energy channelized ahead of general Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

He said the party's 'Kissan Outreach Program’ would be further given an impetus by holding the state-wide pro-farmers events, addressing their concerns as well as those living below the poverty line and downtrodden. He said he had already taken up the issues of giving incentives to industrialists and traders to provide a fillip to business in the state.

“The Union government is working hard to provide a conducive and secure environment to improve the business and trade in the border state”, said he adding that the small scale industry needed to be strengthened and agriculture needed an overview to enhance the income of the farmers.

He meanwhile hit out at AAP’s Bhagwant Mann government for the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab which he said was proving detrimental to peace, industry and trade as investors are uncertain to make their investments in the current scenario. The Punjab, he said, wanted peace and tranquility and there is no place for violence and gang war in this land of Gurus.

He said, BJP wants to work for the welfare and development of the people. The AAP government has failed to provide a congenial law and order atmosphere and the violence is increasing which has shaken the very fabric of the society.
