PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | September 26, 2022 06:32 AM

JALANDHAR: US Based North American Punjabi Association(NAPA) strongly condemned the Sikh student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte who was allegedly detained on the campus for wearing Kirpan.

Releasing the statement here NAPA executive director Satnam Singh Chahal said that the whole world knows about the Sikh articles of faith and it's more than unfortunate to see the North Carolina Campus Police at University detained a Sikh youth for his Kirpan which is one Article of Sikhs. He said that after the 9/11 attacks on the United States Sikhs are living under the shadow of insecurity.

Sikh community members lost several lives and were damaged to their property. Chahal said if the disciplined Police force will mistreat the Sikhs then who will save the Sikhs from hate crime attacks on Sikhs? A viral video shows that the US police tried to take the Kirpan from the Sikh youth and later detained him when he resisted.

We strongly condemn this incident and Urge the US Police senior authorities to take serious action against the Cops who detained the Sikh Student due to the wearing of his articles of faith. Chahal also urged the Government of India to take serious note of this incidence.
