Two operatives of Lawrence Bishnoi gang held after encounter; two pistols recovered

SAS NAGAR: In a major breakthrough amidst the ongoing drive to make Punjab a safe and secure state as per directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) Punjab, in a joint operation with SAS Nagar Police, has foiled a gangster plot with the arrest of two operatives linked to foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, following an exchange of fire at Ghaghar Bridge on the Ambala-Dera Bassi highway, said Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday. 

Those arrested have been identified as Sharanjit Singh, a resident of Motemajra in Mohali and presently residing at village Tangori in Mohali and Aman Kumar, a resident of Khijargarh in Zirakpur, Mohali. Police teams have also recovered two .32 bore pistols along with 10 live cartridges from their possession, besides, impounding their Bajaj Discover motorcycle, which they were riding. 

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested duo were involved in a recent firing incident, which took place in Rajpura last month. The arrested accused persons were further tasked by Goldy Dhillon to target a businessman in Punjab, he said. 

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban that foreign-based gangster Goldy Dhillon was also mastermind behind broad-daylight killing of an Indian-origin industrialist of British Columbia at Abbotsford in October this year. 

DIG AGTF Gurmeet Singh Chauhan said that both the arrested accused have criminal history with two FIRs pertaining to Arms related offences registered against accused Aman. 

Sharing operational details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harmandeep Hans, who accompanied by SP Rural Manpreet Singh, visited the spot said that credible intelligence was received about movement of the two operatives of Lawrence Bishnoi Gang. 

Acting swiftly, joint teams of AGTF and SAS Nagar police led by DSP Dera Bassi Bikramjit Brar has successfully intercepted and apprehended them, the SSP said, while adding that during the operation, the accused opened fire at the police party in an attempt to evade arrest. However, in the retaliatory fire, both of them accused sustained bullet injuries, he added. 

In this regard, a case FIR no 324 dated 12/11/2025 under sections 109, 132, 221 and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 25 of the Arms act has been registered at Police Station Dera Bassi in SAS Nagar.
