KAPURTHALA : An inmate lodged in Modern Jail, Kapurthala, was declared brought dead after being rushed to the Civil Hospital Kapurthala late Saturday evening following a sudden deterioration in his health.
According to official information, the incident occurred on March 7, 2026, at around 8:30 pm, when jail authorities noticed that one of the inmates, Manpreet Singh, was suffering from serious health issues inside the jail premises. He was immediately shifted to the Civil Hospital by jail officials in an unconscious condition for medical treatment.
However, upon arrival at the hospital, the attending doctors examined him and declared him brought dead.
The deceased has been identified as Manpreet Singh, son of Balwant Rai, a resident of village Ugghi in Jalandhar Rural district. Police sources revealed that he had been lodged in the Kapurthala jail in connection with FIR No. 123 dated August 15, 2022, registered under Sections 21 and 22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Nakodar Rural, District Jalandhar Rural.
Following the incident, the matter has been taken up for investigation by Police Station Kotwali, Kapurthala, to ascertain the exact cause of death and the circumstances leading to the incident. Further proceedings are being carried out in accordance with legal procedures.
