CHANDIGARH: Under the able guidance of Mr Justice Jaswant Singh, Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, UT Chandigarh, the Authority organised a webinar on "Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002(PMLA) for the Panel Lawyers of District and State Legal Services Authority, UT, Chandigarh here on Wednesday.
Dr(Mrs) Neha Awasthi, Panel Advocate , was the Resource Person on this Occasion and gave her presentation on the said Act.She explained the Act with special reference to the provisions of Bails etc. She also told that the PMLA seeks to combat money laundering in India and has three main objectives-- to prevent and control money laundering; to confiscate and seize the property obtained from the laundered money and to deal with any other issue connected with money laundering in India. She also explained about the various punishments and powers of the Authority related to the Act. The provisions relating to the Special Courts and the Appellate Tribunal were also widely discussed by the Resource Person.
