CHANDIGARH: "Jal Jagriti Abhiyan" started by Samashya Samadhan Team Chandigarh, a city based NGO. On this occasion members of this NGO assembeld at Shivalik Garden in Sector 13 Manimajra and march with banners and distribute pamphlets among public to aware them to save water.

On this occasion, president of SST A.K. Sood said that Chandigarh is a planned city and every house have a water tank
facility. Instead of this, every person need 135 liters water per day and it is 254 liters per person available in Chandigarh and therefore city have no need of this 24 hours water supply project. This is unwanted project. To conserve water and stop wastage of government money, it is necessary to stop this scheme, for which this "Jal Jagriti Abhiyan" has been started with the help of social worker and environmentalist Praveen. Chandigarh Administration needs to stop this
24 hours water supply project and have to work for providing full pressure supply within stipulated time schedule.

Onkar Saini, Vice President of SST said that water is that natural resource without which the future cannot be imagined. Water cannot be made, it can only be saved. According to the NITI Aayog and WHO, India is facing a severe water crisis and the country will run out of water by 2040, so we should work on water conservation. The scheme of providing 24 hours water under Smart City is a waste of precious natural resource like water. If there is no water tomorrow, then there is doubt as to how the 24-hour water scheme can be successful. Chandigarh Administration will spend about 591 crores for this scheme and if it fails, all this government money will also be wasted.

During the abhiyan., Vicky and Dinesh Dilare said that administration is taking 410 crores as a loan from AFD (Agency France
Development), which has to be repaid with interest in the next 15 years. The financial condition of the Municipal Corporation is already deteriorating and to pay off this debt, MC will recover it from residents by increasing the water bill or by levying different type of taxes etc. It will increase the inflation and public knows it very well and they are supporting our movement.
