CHANDIGARH: Desh Bhagat Radio (107.8 FM DB Radio) in collaboration with State Bank of India Officers Association organized `Walkathon-2023’ here to mark International Women’s Day. The walkathon was flagged off by Vinod Jaiswal, Chief General Manager of State Bank of India.
The walkathon, which started from State Bank of India, local Head Office and culminated at Sukhna Lake, evoked enthusiastic response from the public. Participants sported scarfs and T-shirts made available by the organisers.
Vinod Jaiswal, speaking as the chief guest, said that International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the historical, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day is observed in support of taking action against gender inequality around the world. This is the day to appreciate the efforts of women.
He said the day also marks a call for action to accelerate women’s equality. He said on this day organizations across the world come together to show women how valuable they are in today’s society.
Pro-Chancellor of Desh Bhagat University Dr Tajinder Kaur speaking on the occasion, said the theme for International Women’s Day 2023 is #EmbraceEquity to get the world talking about why equal opportunities are not enough. “Equity means creating an inclusive world, ” she added.
Dr Tajinder Kaur said that the walk was aimed at promoting fitness, and stand against violence against women and domestic violence.
The event was compered by RJ Sangmitra of Desh Bhagat Radio 107.8 fm.
Refreshments were provided to the participants and the chief guest awarded certificates to the participants of the Walkathon.
