UT powermen march protest against privatization

CHANDIGARH:The electricity employees of UT Chandigarh under the banner of
UT Powermen union held a massive demonstration and a march towards governor house
against the privatisation of UT Electricity Department.

The protest march was stopped by the police on the madhya marg by putting barricades and the employees started their protest on the road.After some time the representative of the Punjab Governor who is also administrator of Chandigarh came and recieved their memorandum.
The protest was joined by the Federation of Resident Welfare Associations, led by its chairman Baljinder Singh Bittu , representatives of political parties of Congress, BSP, , AAP CPM and other trade union leaders.

Gopal Dutt Joshi General Secretary said that the department is a making profit for the last 5 years and there is no justification for privatising bthe same.
The privatisation move has been started to benefit the few industrialists of the country .
The other speakers of political parties and resident welfare associations said that the department is providing 24X7 uninterrupted power supply to its consumer.There is no any reason to sale the 100% share of the department to private money monger.As per standard bidding document the land & Buildings will be given to the private company them @Rs1/- per month and further decided to hand over GPF & other benefit to the trust of private operators
It was announced a complete strike on November 26 and the administration will be responsible for peoples grievences.
