Sumit Nagal shocks second seed Cristian Garin in Argentina Open

CHANDIGARH: After winning the first set and set score level 3-3 in the second set, Indian qualifier Sumit Nagal continue his impressive show as he caused a stunning straight sets 6-4 6-3 in 143 minutes over second seeded Cristian Garin of Chile in the singles second round match in the $411, 940 ATP Tennis Tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina this evening.
The seventh game was fiercely contested, Sumit fumbled with four break points against Cristian Garin's service. However, Sumit, born in Jhajjar (Haryana) maintained his composure and capitalised on the fifth breakpoint to take a 4-3 lead.
This break gave Sumit more confidence and won his service game to further increase his lead to 5-3. With Cristian Garin sering in the ninth game, Sumit missed one match point but converted the second to win the game, match and set.
Sumit's next opponent will be Albert Ramos-Vinolas of Spain who accounted for Domnik Koepfer of Germany 7-5, 6-4.
On Wednesday evening playing his fifth successive game, Sumit Nagal won the toss and decided to receive.
Cristian Garin saved three break points on his 1st serve. After deuce was called thrice. Garin managed to win his service game to lead 1-0. Sumit dominated the second game on his service as he won at love to make it 1-1.
Sumit Nagal broke the serve of Cristian Garin to take a 2-1 lead., With Garin asserting himself, Sumit committed a double fault (2nd) and Cristian Garin broke Sumit Nagal to level set score 2-2.
Sumit led 3-2 with a break in the fifth game. Cristian Garin snatched the point on the 1st serve of Sumit Nagal. Sumit faced three break points and deuce was called thrice before Cristian Garin broke the serve of Sumit Nagal to level set score 3-3.
Cristian Garin looked comfortable in the seventh game on his service and won it to lead 4-3. Sumit led 40-15 for two game points. He grabbed the chance and won to restore parity in set score 4-4.
By committing a double fault, Sumit led 40-0 on Garin's service. Garin saved a breakpoint. However Sumit broke his rival's serve to gain 5-4 lead and serve for the set. Tenth game was also contested on equal terms before Sumit wrapping up the first set by winning 6-4 in 53 minutes.
SECOND SET: Garin was trailing 15-40 on his service in the first game of the second set. Sumit broke his rival's service to lead 1-0. On his service Sumit faced two break points. Garin broke back to level set score 1-1. In a ding dong battle Sumit led 40-0 on Garin's service. Garin saved one break point (30-40). Sumit Nagal won the point on the 1st serve of Cristian Garin to break his rival to lead 2-1. Garin broke back Sumit in the fourth game to make it 2-2.
Cristian Garin struggled in the fifth game which he just managed to win after converting fourth game point to lead 3-2.
Sumit Nagal won the point on his second serve to win the sixth game to level set score to 3-3. Then came the seven game in which Sumit had two advantages. Sumit ultimately broke his rival on the way to the quarter-final.
