CHANDIGARH: Shiv Kumar Sharma from Chandigarh has been honored with the prestigious 24th CavinKare Ability Awards.
Born visually impaired in a small village in Himachal Pradesh, Shiv is now based in Chandigarh. He received the National Mastery Award for his contribution to India’s first multi-inclusive film “Rabb Di Awaaz” and for his work in social advocacy.
Shiv Kumar Sharma’s journey from a remote village in Himachal Pradesh to the national stage in Chennai is a story of perseverance and resilience. During his address at the ceremony, he emphasized that his lead role in the landmark film “Rabb Di Awaaz” was not about seeking fame or stardom, but about a deep commitment to authenticity and accurate representation of persons with disabilities in cinema. The award ceremony was held recently in Chennai.
He was accompanied by the film’s director, Ojaswii Sharma, also from Chandigarh, who has previously been honored by the President of India with the Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus) and the Special Jury Award at the 68th National Film Awards. Ojaswii has also been recognized by the United Nations, UNESCO, and Brotherhood India, as well as twice by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Apart from “Rabb Di Awaaz”, his other notable works include Admitted, Zubaan, Chaurasi, and The Last Date.
