CBI arrests ASI of Chandigarh Police for accepting Ting bribe

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against an Assistant Sub Inspector(ASI), posted at Police Station, Sector-34, Chandigarh on a complaint alleging that the accused was demanding a bribe of Rs.20, 000/- in lieu of not registering a case against the complainant, an employee of Air Force, in a matter of non-payment of the loan amount to a Financing Firm.

It has been further alleged that the accused threatened the complainant that there was a complaint lodged by the financing firm against him. The complainant, who is said to be retiring from his service in the coming months, allegedly felt threatened that his retirement funds/benefit may be stuck if a case is registered.
CBI laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.10, 000/- as partial payment. Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused and other suspected places.

The accused was produced today in the Court of Special Judge, CBI Cases, Chandigarh and remanded to one day’s Police Custody.Name of the accused: Harbhajan Singh, Assistant Sub Inspector, Police Station, Sector 34, Chandigarh
