AIPEF remembers Er.Harbans Singh on his 104th birthday

CHANDIGARH: All India Power Engineers Federation, today remembers its founder-chairman Harbans Singh on his 104th birth anniversary for his contribution to the Indian power sector.

He was the first power engineer to head a state electricity board in the history of India. He was founding President PSEB Engineers' Association., Founding Chairman All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF), and founding Chairman Northern India Power Engineers Federation (NIPEF).

Not many are aware thatz the Bhakra Dam owes its existence greatly to Harbans Singh presented the state case to the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and convinced him of the feasibility of the project. He continued his association with the Planning Commission right through his career.

Punjab also owes the gratitude to him for the perception, planning and execution of Guru Nanak Thermal Plant at Bathinda, much against the wishes of the Centre. The project was completed in record time against all odds.

He was also bestowed lifetime achievement award by the PSEB Power Engineers Federation.

V K Gupta Spokesperson AIPEF said that the power engineers of the country remember him on his 104th birthday, for his contribution in power generation and enabling Power Engineers in the country to participate in nation building.
