AMRITSAR:More than 950 girl students awarded degrees at KCW Convocation
This is an era of women emancipation and the women empowerment is possible only through a concerted focus on women education. This was stated by Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) President Satyajit Singh Majithia, who distributed degrees to 969 graduate and post-graduate girl students at Khalsa College for Women (KCW), here today.
Giving a historical account of various aspect of the women emancipation and their rights, Majithia also expressed regret over the way the women is treated as commodity in the market economy system. He asked the girls however to gain knowledge but at the same time be humble as they are the building blocks of the families and society at large.
KCGC honorary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, who presided over the academic function also stressed on professional education amongst the girls. ``There is dire need to introduce skill development courses to make youth and especially girls `employable’ in new era of professionalism”, said Chhina
The girls students wearing the ceremonial gowns took the degrees while the meritorious ones were also bestowed with the honours during the function. KCW Principal Dr. Manpreet Kaur read the progress report citing the achievements of the College in academics, cultural activities and sports. She said that under the able leadership of KCGC, the College was progressing day and night and new infrastructure development has put the college in the forefront in education field.
She also congratulated the students who got degrees. KCGC Joint Secretary Sardool Singh Manann, Principal Jagdish Singh, Harminder Singh Freedom, Member Sukhdev Singh Abdal, Member Paramjit Singh Bal, Santokh Singh Sethi, including Principal Dr. Mehal Singh, Dr. Harpreet Kaur, Dr. Jaspal Singh, Dr. Surinder Pal Kaur Dhillon, Dr. Kamaljit Kaur, Dr.Kanwaljit Singh, Nanak Singh, A.S Gill, Puneet Kaur Nagpal and Other were present.
