Rayat Bahra University launches B Tech in stem cell engineering

MOHALI: The Institute of Translational Health Science (ITHS) at Rayat Bahra University has announced the launch of North India’s first-ever B.Tech programme in Stem Cell and Tissue Engineering.

This groundbreaking course marks a significant milestone in biomedical education, offering students a unique opportunity to explore one of the most advanced frontiers of modern science.

The course was formally launched by Jyoti Garhewal, Founder, ITHS and Prof Pulakes Purkait, Director, ITHS, whose vision and academic leadership have played a pivotal role in designing this innovative curriculum.

The initiative is supported by Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University, who applauded the Institute's commitment to advancing scientific research and preparing students for emerging career pathways in regenerative medicine, biotechnology, and translational health.

Bahra said, “Innovators Research Programme (IRP) of ITHS is a big initiative of Rayat Bahra University. The four-year B.Tech programme is designed to encourage the students to engage in scientific research by promoting the “One student, One Patent” policy.

The programme blends the core engineering principles with advanced biomedical sciences, covering subjects like cell culture techniques, scaffold design, regenerative therapies, and bio fabrication.

With practical exposure, research opportunities, and industry alignment, the course aims to produce next-generation biomedical engineers ready to contribute to India’s growing healthcare, innovation ecosystem by supporting patent filing and research publications.
