Rayat Bahra University celebrated international women day-2021 on the theme choose to challenge and ‘The so Called Gender Equality’ to recognize and honour the role of women in society

MOHALI: Women Day celebrations at Rayat Bahra University continued for two days by organizing various activities. An expert talk on YouTube Channel of Rayat Bahra University on ‘The so Called Gender Equality’ by Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Gill, Professor Department of Sociology, Dean Research, Panjab University, Chandigarh was full insightful information on gender equality. Prof. (Dr.) Rajesh Gill stated that empowerment and autonomy of women and the improvement of their political, social, economic and health status is a highly important. She said that we need to give equal opportunities to women for equal pay, equal respect as equal to men. She further added this is a tradition of worshiping many female goddesses, including honoring woman roles in society such as mother, aunt, wife, and other female relatives or friends. But it doesn’t mean that the country’s need for growth can only be fulfilled by respecting or honoring women. It needs equality in every way of life for the rest of the country’s half population.

Prof. (Dr.) Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rayat Bahra University spoke about significance of International women day celebrations and why, where and when it started. He appreciated the role of women in the society and encouraged to participate in every field as nothing is impossible for a woman to achieve anything.

Dr Simerjit Kaur, Department of Life Sciences and Dr. Pooja Sharma, Department of CSE, were the organizing secretary of the event.
Dr. Simerjit Kaur talked about ‘Central role of women in society has ensured the stability, progress and long-term development of nations. She stated that despite being playing a significant role in society and family life, gender inequality is there and women are still underrepresented in key fields especially in STEM; Women face Gender bias in the workplace and Women are less successful when it comes to salary negotiation.

Ms. Sahila Bahra Vice President Rayat Bahra University focussed that women should be given the same and equal opportunities Women should be free to be who they are and pursue what they want to do.

Prof. B.S.Satyal Registrar Rayat Bahra University in his address focused on empowering women is essential to the health and social development of families, communities and countries.
