National Maths day celebrated at RBU

MOHALI: Rayat Bahra University School of Sciences celebrated National Mathematics (NMD-2019) by organizing a symposium on `Advances in Mathematics & interdisciplinary Sciences’ catalyzed and supported by Punjab State Council of Science and Technology, Chandigarh.

Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Rayat Bahra University, who inaugurated the symposium emphasized on the significant role of mathematics in building mental discipline, logical reasoning and skills enhancement.

Dr Deepak Wasan, Additional Director, National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Ropar campus was the keynote speaker and delivered a talk highlighting the role of mathematics in interdisciplinary fields and its applications.

He discussed Artificial Intelligence and the algorithms behind the scenes. He said that such symposia provided a useful forum to the participants to share their expertise, knowledge with the students and faculty. Such activities also broaden their horizon of research, he added.

Dr Anita Badreja, Joint Director, NIELIT, Ropar Campus, delivered an expert talk on application and importance of Artificial Intelligence. Dr CP Gandhi, Head, Department of Mathematics, University School of Sciences motivated the students and the online viewers to start loving, understanding the role and importance of mathematics in the existence of the universe.

The main objective of the symposium was to provide a platform where professionals and students could interact and the students could get to know more about the applications of mathematics in various fields.

The symposium included plenary talks, quiz competitions and poster presentation competition. Around 500 students were part of the quiz and poster presentation event. The event was shown live on Youtube and Facebook to avoid gathering and to maintain social distancing in this pandemic situation. A large group of audience participated online.
