National Mathematics Day celebrated by Rayat Bahra University School of Sciences

MOHALI: Rayat Bahra University School of Sciences, celebrated National Mathematics Day by organizing a National Symposium on "Mathematics for Life and Applications” in collaboration with Punjab State Council for Science and Technology. The main objective of the symposium was to to provide forum to the students to understand various mathematical methods in an easy and interesting way and to enhance the knowledge and awareness of the upcoming areas of research among the students and teaching faculty along with promotion of collaborative research work. Dr. Dalijit Singh, Vice Chancellor Rayat-Bahra University inaugurated the symposium along with Dr. Harvinder Kaur, Dean University School of Sciences and other dignitaries. Dr. Dalijit Singh emphasized upon the crucial role of Mathematics in building mental discipline and logical reasoning. The symposium included Plenary talks, Quiz, Oral and poster presentation competitions. More than 250 delegates participated in the symposium with full zeal and enthusiasm.

Dr. Vinay Kanwar, UIET, Panjab University, Chandigarh provided information about Conic Sections and their Applications while Dr. Surinder Pal Singh, Department of Mathematics, Panjab University, Chandigarh discussed type of Infinities and their applications during the plenary talks. Quiz competition was marked by preliminary qualifying round in which sixty five teams participated and six teams were selected for the main round. In the oral and poster presentation competitions, participants showcased the role of mathematics and its applications in daily life. The symposium was concluded by prize distribution to the winners in the poster presentation.
