Honoring Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's Legacy: National Education Day Celebrated at Guru Nanak Dev University

AMRITSAR: The Department of Education at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, commemorated National Education Day today, honoring the legacy of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first Education Minister. Under the leadership of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jaspal Singh Sandhu, the university celebrated Azad's profound contributions to Indian education.

Prof. (Dr.) Amit Kauts, Head of the Department of Education, opened the event with a tribute to Azad's vision for an inclusive and forward-thinking education system.

He underscored Azad's efforts to establish foundational institutions such as the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), the University Grants Commission (UGC), and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, which remain instrumental in shaping India's educational framework.

The day's program included presentations on the significance of National Education Day, a detailed life sketch of Maulana Azad, and discussions on his educational contributions. A thought-provoking panel discussion, chaired by Prof. (Dr.) Kauts, examined the implications of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. Faculty members contributed insights on various topics, including advancements in higher education, promotion of multilingualism, inclusive learning environments, and early childhood education.

In her closing remarks, Prof. (Dr.) Deepa Sikand Kauts emphasized the need for ongoing improvements in educational practices and policies. She encouraged educators to honor Azad's legacy by fostering a future that ensures equitable and quality education for all.

This celebration served as a reminder of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad's vision and the collective responsibility of educators to uphold his ideals, inspiring a brighter future for India’s learners.
