MOHALI: Commerce Department of the University School of Management Studies (USMS) at Rayat Bahra University celebrated Basant Panchami elebrated Basant Panchami with enthusiasm with the rendition of Saraswati Vandana.
HOD Amita Rani in her address highlighted the importance of Saraswati Vandana . She motivated students to become best version of them as they are the significant ones in building a better society.
The students dressed in their yellow fineries, presented a scintillating performance. Students decorated the department with yellow rangoli. The Department was resounding with the tune of “Aaya Aaya Basant”, to mark the end of the winters.
Amita Rani addressed the students and told them about the significance of the day that the fifth day of the bright fortnight of the lunar month of Magh is the day of Basant Panchmi.
Students were divided into three groups for kite flying competition .This Panchmi is also known as Saraswati Day as it is believed that this day is Saraswati's birthday. Yellow color is given special importance on this day. Sweetmeats of yellow hues are exchanged with relatives and friends.
The students showcased the vibrant tradition of Punjab depicting the spirit of inner freedom, creative pride and zest for life. The function was graced distinguished functionaries of the university and shared the significance of the day with the students.
Different competitions were organised by the department for students which included kite making, poster making, mehndi and rangoli. In kite making, Anchal Guleria and Vishal got 1st and 2nd position respectively. In Poster Making, Navdeep Kaur and Simranpreet Kaur got 1st and 2nd position respectively. AC.Vaid Registrat RBU given away the prizes to the winners.
In Mehndi, Shruti and Sandeep kaur got 1st and 2nd position respectively. In Rangoli, Megha and Vidhushi got 1st position and Gurpreet Kaur and Prabhleen Kaur got 2nd position.
