MOHALI: International Day for Biological Diversity was celebrated by University School of Agricultural Sciences, Rayat Bahra University, in collaboration with the Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, Union Department of Science and Technology, on the theme ‘Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development’.
The celebration provided a platform for the exchange of ideas and knowledge sharing, discuss and understand the convergence of various technologies on biological diversity and their applications.
The event marked the institute's commitment to preservation of environment by Biological Diversity in harmony with nature and Sustainable Development and looking forward to future endeavours.
Prof Amita Mahajan, Head, Department of University School of Agriculture Sciences, along with Dean Academic Affairs Prof Satish Kumar spoke about importance of biological diversity. Dr Gurdarshan Singh Brar registrar of RBU was also part of the session.
A token of appreciation was presented to the Chief Guest Dr A.S. Ahluwalia, former Pro Vice-Chancellor, Eternal University Baru Sahib (Himachal Pradesh).
Dr Ahluwalia spoke about preservation and protection of biological diversity by following different technologies and daily steps which individuals can adopt to save environment and biodiversity. Birthday diversity at present is threatened by reduction of flora and fauna thereby threatening human life as well.
He said Biological Diversity has utmost role to play in the security and survival of human life on this planet.
Sunil Kumar Agarwal, retired Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, highlighted the role played by forests in preserving biological diversity by good governance of forest ecosystem, wild life and biological diversity in harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.
Ranjeet Kaur, Programme officer, Punjab State Council for Science and Technology, stressed the need to preserve glaciers, flora and fauna for future generations.
Dr K.S. Chandel, Professor of Agriculture, proposed a vote of thanks to the participants and thanked the speakers.
