MOHALI: A talk entitled "Women's Rights: The Role of Law and Society" was organized by the University School of Law of Rayat Bahra University. Panjab University Prof Rani Mehta delivered the lecture. The event, organized by Associate Professor Dr. Suchet Kumar, aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by women in contemporary society and emphasized the pivotal role of self-determination in women's empowerment.
Professor Rani addressed the challenges that women confront in today's society. She said violence against women has been on the rise. Women in remote regions face more acute issues. Issues of poverty and patriarchy provide significant obstacles to women's empowerment in our culture.
Prof Rani said having the autonomy to make one's own choices is a key component of women's empowerment. Regardless of one's socioeconomic status, men and women should treat each other with dignity. They need to stop competing and start working together as a team, she asserted.
Prof M.S. Bains, Dean, USL, also expressed his gratitude to Prof Rani Mehta for her profound sociolegal understanding of women's rights, society, and the law.
Gurvinder Singh Bahra, Chancellor, and Dr Parvinder Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Rayat Bahra University, lauded the faculty of University School of Law for organising the lecture.
