Seven-day workshop on Gurbani Manuscripts: Tradition, History and Study inaugurated at Guru Nanak Dev University

AMRITSAR: The Centre on Studies in Sri Guru Granth Sahib of Guru Nanak Dev University inaugurated a seven-day workshop focused on "Manuscripts of Gurbani: Tradition, History, and Study" to mark the first Prakash Purab of Sri Guru Granth Sahib.

Dr. Amarjit Singh, Director of the center, inaugurated the workshop. The event brought together researchers from various departments within the university to delve into the essential subject matter. Dr. Amarjit Singh emphasized the significance of manuscripts containing internal references to Sri Guru Granth Sahib and engaged in meaningful discussions regarding the purpose and importance of this scholarly gathering.

Prof. Dr. Amar Singh delved upon the topic 'Writing tradition and content of manuscripts of Gurbani.' His presentation covered various aspects including paper-making techniques, ink materials and methods, as well as collections of Gurbani referencing Janamsakhi literature, Ahiyapur Pothi, Damdmi Bir, Kartarpuri Bir, Darbar-e-Khalsa Wali Bir among others. Profound insights were shared on topics such as availability for scribes' usage; Kashmiri Gurmukhi script; detailed information about Shikshata script; and stone-printed script. Following this session was an engaging discussion as researchers prepared reports based on Prof. Dr.Amar Singh's presentation.
