Eight faculty members of Central University of Punjab feature in ‘Stanford’s top International Scientist List 2022’

BATHINDA: A total of eight faculty members from the Central University of Punjab, Bathinda (CUPB) have been ranked in the list of top international scientists named "Updated Science-wide Author Database of Stanford Citation Indicators" for exceptional research work. This database was released by Stanford University, USA and published by Elsevier BV on October 10, 2022.

The selection is based on the top 100, 000 scientists by c-score (with and without self-citations) or a percentile rank of 2% or above in their field. The creators of this database have classified the top scientists in the world into 22 different fields and 176 subfields. The research group of John P.A. Ioannidis (Stanford, USA) curated two different datasets to recognize the top scientists who have made outstanding research contributions in the single recent year and the international scientists who have done exceptional research work during their career. CUPB scientists have made their mark in both these lists.

The global data database pertaining to citations received during calendar year 2021 featured eight faculty members of the Central University of Punjab viz., Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg (Dept. of Environmental Science and Technology), Dr. Puneet Kumar (Dept. of Pharmacology), Dr. Khetan Shevkani (Dept. of Applied Agriculture), Dr. Shashank Kumar (Dept. of Biochemistry), Dr. Nasir Salam (Dept. of Microbiology), Dr. Anjana Bali (Dept. of Pharmacology), Dr. Vikas Jaitak (Dept. of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Natural Products), and Dr. Randhir Singh (Dept. of Pharmacology). The above scientists have been enlisted in this database for their contributions in the disciplines of Environmental Sciences; Neurology & Neurosurgery; Biochemistry & Molecular Biology; Food Science; General & Internal Medicine; Pharmacology & Pharmacy; and Medicinal & Biomolecular Chemistry.

Among them, Prof. Vinod Kumar Garg from CUPB Dept. of Environmental Science and Technology, who got featured in Stanford’s top 2% scientist list in the years 2020 and 2021, continues to outshine in the prestigious "top international scientists list’ of 2022, for making remarkable contributions in their discipline throughout his career.

Prof. Raghavendra P. Tiwari, the Vice-Chancellor, stated that the inclusion of several faculty members in the world’s top 2 % database highlights our research competencies and that the university is on a path to find innovative solutions to complex problems of society through quality research work. He congratulated all the 8 scientists for their commitment towards break-through research and for bringing great pride to the university.

Prof. B.P. Garg, Controller of Examinations and Registrar (O), and other university officials also complimented the CUPB scientists for inspiring others through their commendable research work.

The career-long database contains 195, 605 scientists, while the single recent year dataset contains 200, 409 scientists. This list has been released based on a database of September 1, 2022.
