MANDI GOBINDGARH: Directorate of Sports and NSS wing of Desh Bhagat University and The Himalayan Foundation celebrated National Sports Day. The Day was a tribute to the enduring legacy of Major Dhyan Chand. On this special day Desh Bhagat University felicitated Saanvi Sood, a mountaineer and Guinness Book of World Records holder, as guest of honour.
Dr JK Sharma, Director IEDC and NSS wing welcomed Dr Zora Singh, Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University and Dr Tajinder Kaur, Pro Chancellor as Chief Guest of the event.
Dr Zora Singh congratulated Saanvi Sood for her achievement. He said that Saanvi is a young determined 8-year-old girl and a student of the Yadvindra Public School, Mohali. She scaled the Mount Everest base camp along with her father and made the country proud by achieving the tag of youngest Indian girl to hoist Tricolour at base camp of Mount Everest.
Dr Parveen Kumar, Director of Sports, congratulated Saanvi Sood for her achievement. Dr Kumar said that on National Sports Day the DBU had organized various sports activities from August 23 to August 29, 2023. The main motive of this was to make the students aware of fitness and to inculcate the discipline of sports in them for their holistic growth.
