Avinash Rai Khanna dwells on Red Cross welfare projects

MOHALI: Avinash Rai Khanna, Vice-Chairman, Indian Red Cross Society, here today spoke about the various welfare activities undertaken by the Red Cross Society under project Humanitarian Service particularly during lockdown.

Khanna, who was the chief guest at a function at the Rayat Bahra University, where he was felicitated for his services to the society, delivered an inspiring speech. He was accompanied by Himachal Pradesh Member of Parliament Indu Goswami.
In his address, Avinash Rai Khanna disclosed that for the success of this project more than 3, 000 children had been trained. Khanna said health and community care had become a cornerstone of humanitarian assistance, and accounts for a large part of Red Cross spending. Through these programmes, the Red Cross aims to enable communities to reduce their vulnerability to disease, and prepare for and respond to public health crises.

The values that the project Humanitarian Service has formally stated to be of importance for promotion are protection of life, health and human dignity, respect for the human being, mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace among people, and service by volunteers

The project involved sparing time for elderly parents who are living alone for any reason, or the death of some family members, listening to their concerns or talking to them, which cheers them up.  He reiterated that the Indian Red Cross Society was committed to serve humanity and bring cheer in the lives of the elderly.

On this occasion he elaborated on the various activities carried out during lockdown under the mission. Chairman of the Rayat Bahra Group of Institutions (RBGI) Gurvinder Singh Bahra and Vice-Chancellor of the RBU Dr Parvinder Singh, Sahila Bahra VP RBGI, Gurinder Bahra VP RBGI, Vineet joshi BJP leader, were also present.
