AMRITSAR: At least 240 girl students from graduate and post-graduate classes were awarded degrees today during the annual Convocation of Sri Guru Teg Bahadur College (SGTB) College for Women here. Khalsa College Governing Council Honorary Secretary and Khalsa University Pro-Chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina who emphasized on the women education and their emancipation while delivering the convocational address.
He said for a just, educated and an aware society, the focus must be on the girls’ education. He said the College was playing a pivotal role in educating the women and empowering them to live a dignified life. He also asked the girls to choose a vacation wisely and be financially independent to gain their rightful and respectful place in the society.
Khalsa University Vice Chancellor Dr. Mehal Singh who was guest of honour also stressed on the right attitude and bent of mind to succeed in life. He said we must be law-abiding citizens and the short-cuts in life lead us to nowhere. “We must adopt good spirits to live a meaningful and dignified life”, said he.
Both congratulated the students on getting the degrees as they apprised the students of the upcoming challenging phase of life which will be full of struggles and with hard work and rightful approach they can turn challenges into opportunities. College Principal Dr.Lakshami Malhotra read the progress report, citing the achievements of the College students in academics, cultural activities and sports. She thanked the management for providing infrastructure and support resulting in progress of the College.
