What You Should Do If You Lost In Sports Betting

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | February 09, 2021 09:10 PM
  • Losing in anything is never a good feeling. Even losing in risk-free things such as a casual mobile game can feel disappointing and sometimes may agitate some people. Losing money over a bet is much more disappointing, and for some people who may be new to the world of gambling, it can also be disheartening.

However, as the saying goes, there are always good things that come out of anything, and this applies even when you are on the losing end of the spectrum. No matter which betting sites in India you are playing on, here are some of the ways that you can do order to turn the table around to the positive side and make something good out of your losing wagers.

Live by the word of the “sage”

By definition, a sage can be a metaphor for an old wise man. In sports and betting, a “sage” is someone who had suffered a loss--possibly even a huge one--but managed to take it well and even take it positively.

To put it simply, living by the word of the sage is to have the mindset that you can never always win--that sometimes, you will lose, and that is okay. Losing, in this perspective, is not something to sulk on or get down for but rather something that is a part of whatever you are doing.

Take it as a lesson

Instead of looking at your betting as a win or lose situation, why not look at it as a win or learn wager?

If you lost a bet, it may very well be just luck not being on your side. It could also be because you failed to “play the game” properly and you missed critical factors that resulted in you making a bad decision. If the latter is the case, then learn where you made your lapses and make sure you apply whatever you learned from this experience to the next one.

It’s only a minor tragedy

If you need one reason not to become overly depressed over a lost bet, then try looking at the bigger picture. Losing one bet is a rather small “tragedy” compared to other things that could go wrong in your life. Is it worth fussing so much over?

Keep in mind, though, that this is not to guilt shame anyone into feeling down over a loss but rather, a reminder that it is always better to take a deep breath and just either call it a day or get on with it again for another round.

The GLAD technique

Have you ever heard of the “GLAD technique?” This is an acronym for the words Grateful, Learned, Accomplished, and Delighted.

Glad refers to something that made you happy, no matter how small it is. You may have lost a bet, but you may have enjoyed watching the game. While you lost, you may have learned something--perhaps a new trivia about your favorite player or team. You may have accomplished something small or big that day, from cleaning the house to managing to work without looking at your phone. Lastly, what simply joys of life delighted you? There are many things that you can focus your mind on to take it away from the feeling of loss.

Focus on the wins instead

Surely, you may have won along the way. Or even if you have not yet a win will eventually come. Rather than thinking of what you lost, why not focus on your previous wins or the future chances of winning more?
