CHANDIGARH: Controversial president of Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal has resigned from his post. He faced allegations of corruption in PCA.
He was the youngest President at 39. Chahal was elected President in May 2022 reportedly with the support of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Chahal is also an actor worked in bollywood films.
Internationaly crickter Harbhajan Singh had complained to BCCI against Chahal alleging corrupt practices by Chahal. Harbhajan Singh has pointed out irregularities in the test match between India and Australia beside illegal enrolment of new members.
SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia had also demanded high level probe against Chahal for his corrupt practices. He accused that Chahal was in process to enrol 150 new members of PCA by circuventing the rules. He also alleged corruption in day to day working of the PCA.
Chahal was facing multiple allegations, first being enrolment of illegal voter members without consent from the Apex Council.
The other alleged malpractice was appointing his personal chartered firm as the official auditor of the PCA, which amounts to conflict of interest.
The third charge was selling of tickets for the Mohali T20 International against Australia.
Gulzar Inder Singh Chahal is an Indian film actor and producer. He played the role of Roop in Jag Jeondeyan De Mele. He has also co-produced "Heer-Ranjha", starring Harbhajan Mann and Neeru Bajwa. He would be seen in the lead role in a Bollywood movie-"I Am Singh"(directed by Puneet Issar), in which Gulzar plays the lead role of a turbaned Sikh
