Awais, Haseebullah and Irfan star in Pakistan's win over Zimbabwe

BASSETERRE (ST KITTS AND NEVIS): Deadly bowling by Awais Ali (6 for 56), a brilliant century by Haseebullah (135) and 189-run partnership between Haseebullah and Irfan Khan (75 ) for the third wicket stand were the highlights of the Pakistan's performance against Zimbabwe in the ICC Under-19 Men's World Cup here here today.

Chasing a tough target of scoring 316 runs for victory set by Pakistan, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 200 in 42.4 overs. Pakistan won by 115 runs.

Down 55 for 2 in 16.2 overs, Pakistan, put in to bat by Zimbabwe after winning the toss, were bolstered to 315 for 9 by a solid 189-run partnership between Haseebullah (135) and Irfan Khan (75 ) . This pair frustrated the Zimbanwe bowlers. This association carried the Pakistan total to 244 in 44.1 overs before Irfan Khan was caught by Brian Bennett off the bowling of Alex Falao. Irfan Khan played a 73-ball knock of 75 which contained six boundaries and one six.

Zimbabw struggled throughout their innings. At one stage they were precariously placed at 111 for 7 in 21.3 overs, Brian Bennett (82, 11x4s, 1x60 and Tendekai Mataranyika (26) held the fort till 40.2 overs as this pair stitched a defiant 83-run eight wicket partnership for the eight wicket. They carried the total to 194 before Brian Bennett was caught by Mehran Mumtaz off the bowling of Awais Al. With his dismissal Zimbabwe's hopes were shattered and lost by 115 runs.

Earlier, hitting his majestic century, Haseebullah's striking rate was 87. He faced 155 deliveries and raced to the fence 10 times. He also hit four effortless sixes.

Left-handed Abdul Faseeh (27), Qasim Akram (20), Abbas Al (13) and Zeeshan Zameer (21) were the other main contrbutors for Pakistan.
