Historic Sikh shrines in Afghanistan

According to Sikh chronicles, Kabul was a major center of Sikhism. Kabul is the capital of Afghanistan. Guru Nanak Sahib and Bhai Mardana came from Baghdad and stayed at Kabul in 1520-21. Historic in Panchak, Jatha (Kabul). In memory of Guru Nanak Sahib, a Gurdwara was built by Sikhs but after 1947, the government of Afghanistan demolished it and built a road.

The new Gurdwara Sahib was built by the Sikhs in another place. Kabul was considered a major center of Sikhism during the time of Guru Arjan Dev ji, Guru Hargobind Sahib and Guru Har Rai Sahib.There are some historic Gurdwaras and Shrines in Afghanistan.

Gurdwara Chua Sahib or Chashma Sahib Patshahi Paheli: This historic shrine is located at Jallabad, Its latitude is 34-26 'and longitude is 70 ° -28'. This Gurdwara is towards Eastern side of Afghanistan. Gurdwara was built in memory of Guru Nanak Sahib when Guru Sahib visited Mecca in the early 16th century. They came here via Medina and Baghdad. Guru Sahib at the request of Sangat constructed a well of cold water.

Gurdwara Guru Nanak Chashma: This historical site is located on Jalalabad Kabul Road. It is eight kilometers from Jalalabad.

Kauda Sahib : This Gurdwara is in the village of Aska. A local woman who is described in Sikh history as 'Kabal Wali Mai' used to go to Amritsar and do Karsewa service.

Gurdwara Chakki Sahib :Babar imprisoned number of Pirs and Faqirs and tasked mills to kept grinding. When Guru Nanak Sahib reached Kabul, he too was imprisoned at Gurdwara Chakki Sahib. Guru Sahib's mills started moving automatically and when the emperor heard of it, he released all the Pirs and fakirs at Guru Sahib's request. The upper portion of the same mill is in Bhai Shyam Singh's Dharamshala in Kabul city and the lower portion of the mill is in Shahibagh.

Gharhka Pahar Tibbi Sahib. This place is 22 km away from Kabul. During the day time sand assimilate at one place and during night dispersed. In the morning foot prints of horses seen in abundance.

Hazara Parbat : Here historic Shrine 'Kotha Sahib' is very famous. Here in Kara parshad every time Punja is seen.

Babe da Thara: Three kilometres from Kabul , near the Babar's marble bungalow, adjacent 'Babe da Thara'. It is familiar that Babar came here to have blessings from Baba Nanak ji.

There are many villages around Kabul , where footprints of Baba Nanak confirmed by local people. These villages are Dargahi village in the Malkand mountains. Apart nine kilometres from Dargahi northern is Bhuner village of Pargana Yaki. Ablies village is two kms North of Kabul . In this way, there are many more villages Lukman, Kurruka, Kurem, Goori, Bughlan etc, where Baba Nanak's footprints confirmed by the local people. Inspite of above Gurdwaras there are Gurdwara Karta Parvan, Kabul and many more.

These historic Shrines descriptions are preserved in Source books like Gurdwara Darpan, Sri Guru Tireth Sangre, Sri Gurdwara Darshan, Twarikh Gurdwaran, Gurshabad Ratnakar Mahan kosh, Gurdwara Kosh etc.
