AMRITSAR: Former Indian Ambassador to the United States, current advisor to the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum, and Chairman of the Geopolitical Institute, Sardar Taranjit Singh Sandhu has continued to work with full dedication towards realizing the vision he presented for the development of Amritsar during the Lok Sabha elections, under the banner of “Viksit Amritsar”.

With active collaboration from the Indian diaspora—especially global communities connected to Amritsar—he is striving to transform the city’s economic, technological, and social landscape.

Despite being one of India’s most historic and culturally rich cities, Amritsar still faces serious challenges and developmental needs. In response, the "Viksit Amritsar" initiative has launched several concrete measures aimed at sectors such as healthcare, tourism, agriculture, industry, trade, education, information technology, women empowerment, and youth entrepreneurship.

The central office of this mission has been established at Samundari House, Amritsar.

Taranjit Singh Sandhu, founder of “Viksit Amritsar”, senior BJP leader and a trusted associate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and External Affairs Minister Dr. Jaishankar, expressed satisfaction that the initiative has already extended support to reputed institutions rising above caste and religion, such as:

The initiative played a crucial role in establishing the first phase of collaboration between Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) and Maryland State University (USA). GNDU Vice-Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh has already visited Maryland, and the Governor of Maryland is expected to visit Amritsar soon with a delegation to sign an MoU and advance collaboration in the field of computer science.

Sandhu also announced that scholarships will be offered to Amritsar students currently studying at Maryland University under this initiative.
