CHANDIGARH: Due to intense heat waves in the state , the power demand in Haryana has increased by more than 23 % in the first 16 days of June as compared to last year during the same period. The maximum demand in the first 16 days of June was 13384 MW on June 14 , while last year the maximum demand was 10816 MW during the same corresponding period.
In 2023 the maximum power demand recorded during the year was 13055 MW and this demand has already been breached on June 14 and this year it is likely to cross 14, 500 MW this summer.
This year the maximum power supply by power utilities was 2730 lakh units on June 15 whereas it was 2266 LU on June 13 last year. This year the power supply in the first 15 days is 40244 LU, an increase of 31.7 % over last year's supply of 30545-LU during the corresponding period.
Even in May this year the maximum power demand in the state was 12336 MW on May 24 against last year’s demand of 9975 -MW on May 23 . The supply made by UHBVN and DHBVN this year is 68390 LU against 50980 LU last May. The power supply made in Haryana by power utilities has increased by more than 33%. The maximum supply of 2596 Lakh units was made by UHBVN and DHBVN on May 31 against last year's supply of 2054 LU on May 23.
Some power shortfalls have been reported across the state as complaints of emergency load shedding and outages persist due to local breakdowns and maintenance works.. On paper, there is no shortage of electricity till date but on the ground, the situation is different as power outages are reported from different places every day.
It may be mentioned that all three Panipat thermal units and both units at Khedar thermal and Yamuna Nagar thermal are operating today.
