KAITHAL: About 32 sheep have died due to eating stale " Phirni chura" 35 sheep fell sick in vegetable market of Fatehpur Pundri . After this incident, there has been a stir among the people of the area. Giving information, sheep owners Subhash and Bira Ram said that while returning after grazing sheep last evening, they noticed that phirni chura was lying behind Pundri Mandi which was eaten by their sheep.
On reaching home, the condition of the sheep started deteriorating and many sheep died by morning. Veterinarians have been called to treat sick sheep. Subhash told that he also raises sheep on contract. Sheep are the main means of their livelihood. The death of so many sheep also caused him mental trouble along with heavy financial losses. The villagers here say that the world famous phirni of Pundri is famous for its quality and delicacy but this time Phirni remains the cause of controversies. A few days ago, the health department had taken samples of locally made Ghewar from a famous shop in Fatehpur Pundri , though the report of the samples taken is yet to be received.
Meanwhile the residents and sheep owners have expressed concern over throwing stale Phirni residue in the open which resulted in the death of so many sheep and causing sickness among dozens of sheeps under treatment at present. They have demanded inquiry to fix responsibility for this incidents.
