PHAGWARA: A high-level meeting was held in Surat, Gujarat, under the leadership of Union Minister for Water Resources C. R. Patil, to discuss the purification and reuse of the city’s polluted water. Attending the meeting, Rajya Sabha Member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal stated that no river in the country can be cleaned without active public participation.
While presenting a 7-minute video on the holy Bein river, Sant Seechewal said that until a people’s movement is built for river cleaning, no river can truly become pollution-free. He remarked that although a massive budget of ₹20, 000 crore was allocated for the cleaning of the Ganga, even after spending such a large amount, the national river still remains polluted.
