Why BJP is not allowing proceedings in the Indian Parliament: Diljit Singh Bedi

AMRIK SINGH | March 22, 2023 12:44 AM

AMRITSAR: Former secretary of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and Sikh thinker. Daljit Singh Bedi, commenting on the stalled proceedings of the Parliament for several days, said that the BJP was getting upset over Rahul Gandhi's remark which he had said while talking to the teachers and students of Cambridge University that democracy in India was being eroded. And it will affect the democratic process in other countries as well”.

He said that the Bharatiya Janata Party has created a narrative based on these comments that Rahul Gandhi has insulted India on foreign soil and he should apologize for it. Regarding this demand, the ruling party is not allowing the proceedings of the Parliament to continue. He said that it is a pity that she is having a party. Which has 303 members in the Lok Sabha.

Mr Bedi said that according to the constitutional norms, the ruling party has a duty to conduct the proceedings in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha in a constitutional and dialogic manner. He said that the Congress leaders are alleging that the proceedings are not being allowed because the ruling party wants to divert people's attention from the Adani issue.

He said that it is unconstitutional for any party to make the Parliament defunct, as it is a violation of the faith reposed by the people in their elected representatives. Dialogue is very important both in Parliament and outside Parliament. He said debate and discussion are the age of democracy. From the current situation, it appears that the ruling party is running away from holding a dialogue in the Parliament and is wasting time by making excuses.
