Two Youths Die in Separate Road Accidents in Phagwara

PHAGWARA: Two young men lost their lives, in two different road mishaps on Monday. A young motorcyclist, identified as Gaurav Joshi, died in a road accident while returning from a pilgrimage. Joshi, a resident of Phagwara and proprietor of a confectionery shop in Gaushala Bazar, had visited the revered shrine of Shri Baba Balak Nath to pay obeisance.

According to reports received here, he was returning home early Monday morning when his motorcycle veered off the road and struck a tree. The impact proved fatal, and he died on the spot.

The news of his untimely death cast a pall of gloom over the residents of the city. Hundreds of residents gathered at the Banga Road crematorium to pay their last respects. Mourners remembered him as a devout and hard-working individual, and his sudden passing has left a significant void in the neighborhood.

Later that evening, a second fatal accident occurred on Sultanpur Lodhi Road near Kapurthala, further deepening the day's sorrow. The incident took place around 8:30 PM near Satguru Petrol Pump, where two youths riding a motorcycle collided head-on with an Activa scooter coming from the opposite direction. The collision caused the motorcycle to lose control and crash into an oncoming truck.

One of the riders, Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Mohalla Kesri Bagh, sustained critical injuries and was declared dead upon arrival at the Civil Hospital in Kapurthala. His companion, Sikandar, and a resident of the same locality, was seriously injured and remains under medical care.

Speaking from his hospital bed, Sikandar recounted that the two were on their way to purchase household items when the accident occurred. “We were near the petrol pump when a scooter suddenly struck our bike, and we lost control, crashing into a truck, ” he stated.

Emergency services responded promptly, with personnel from the Punjab Police PCR team, including In-charge Ranjit Singh and ASI Karamjit Singh, reaching the site to assist in transporting the injured. The body of Mukesh Kumar has been handed over to his family members after autopsy conducted in the hospital .
