Tearful adieu to army Martyr Gajjan Singh, Punjab CM remained present, assures full support to family

ROPAR: Army martyr Seoy Gajjan Singh (26) who sacrificed his life in Poonchh encounter with terrorists was today cremated at his native village Parchanda near Nurpur Bedi in this district. Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi, Punjab speaker Rana KP Singh and thousands of people from various walks of life paid tearful adieu to the martyr.

Punjab CM joined the family to give shoulder to the body of the martyr. He assured the family full support of the Punjab Government. The Punjab Government would give Rs.50 lakhs and a job to a member of the family. He said that a suitable memorial in the name of martyr Gajjan Singh would be built. Channan Singh, father of the martyr lit the pyre.

Martyr's mother said that she was proud of the sacrifice of her son. But she emphasised on finding some political solution to the Kashmir problem.

Other paid tributes included MLA Ropar Amarjit Singh Sandoa and Punjab Youth Congress president Barinder Singh Dhillon.

Sepoy Gajjan is survived by his old parents and wife Harpreet Kaur. She said that she was proud of her husband who sacrificed life for the nation. Martyr Gajjan Singh had joined the 23rd Sikh regiment nine years ago. He had visited home two months back to attend the marriage of his brother. He himself got married on February 5, 2021. He was the youngest of four brothers.

The Father of the martyr, said that his son was very brave and deeply concerned about the farmer's agitation. He demanded to erect a gate at the entry of the village in memory of his son so that future generations get inspiration from his martyrdom.

Earlier, the dead body of the martyr wrapped in the national flag was brought to his village by the army officers of his regiment.
