CHANDIGARH:The Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) today announced to stage a protest in front of the Powercom headquarters, Patiala on Wednesday at 10.30 am against the Congress Govenment, holding them responsible for the ongoing power crisis in Punjab due to coal shortage.

The Party delegation led by the senior party leader, MLA and former Finance Minister, S. Parminder Singh Dhindsa along with leaders and workers would join the protest against the power crisis showing resentment against the irresponsible behaviour of the state government towards tackling the ongoing power crisis in the State.

In a statement issued here today, Party president and Rajya Sabha member, S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa slammed Chief Minister, Sh. Charanjit Singh Channi led the Congress government led for forcing the State to face a power crisis.

S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said that amidst the long-running 'Chair Battle' in Congress government, it seems that the government has clearly shown that how the Chief Minister, Sh. Charanjit Singh Channi had completely forgotten the pivotal issue of the power crisis which have been haunting Punjab for a long time now.

"The recent power crisis in Punjab due to coal shortage is simply resulting of the negligent attitude adopted by the state government and because of which the people of Punjab today are facing daily power cuts and this crisis is likely to intensify in the days to come, " said S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa.

S. Dhindsa said that by not keeping the adequate stock of coal for power generation, the state government has shown a reckless and irresponsible attitude towards the people of the state leaving them on the receiving end.

He said that the government should have been prepared for this situation well in advance. This one timely planning done by the State Government could have saved the farmers and domestic consumers from the problems they are now being forced the face, but Punjab Chief Minister Sh. Charanjit Singh Channi left the people of Punjab unattended and kept busy attending the 'Delhi Darbar', added S. Dhindsa.

S. Dhindsa said that the Congress government had promised to provide electricity to the farmers for at least eight hours which has become nothing but a hallucination. Even before this, during the scorching heat of July, the people of Punjab had to face long power cuts.

Along with asking Punjab Chief Minister, Sh. Charanjit Singh Channi to make appropriate arrangements to resolve the current power crisis in Punjab, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa also asked the Union Government to immediately increase the supply of coal for Punjab so that the power crisis in the state could be overcome.
