PUNJAB NEW EXPRESS | September 26, 2020 10:50 PM

CHANDIGARH: Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD) today announced to break its political alliance with BJP and stepped out of National Democratic Alliance on the issue of three agriculture bills.

This announcement was made by SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal who said that farm bills were against the interest of farmers and SAD cant be part of NDA in such circumstances. He claimed that SAD had tried to convince Union Government  led by Narender Modi not to bring these bills.

Last week Harsimrat Kaur Badal had resigned from Union cabinet. SAD launched protest aainst center but continued to part of NDA. Under pressure from party cadre and to save its base in Punjab SAD was forced to break its alliance with BJP. However it is not clear that SAD and BJP would contest next Punjab elections together or not.
