PHAGWARA: Chairman of the Punjab State Safai Karamchari Commission Chandan Grewal reaffirmed the Commission's dedication to improving the welfare of sanitation workers employed by municipal corporations, councils, and nagar panchayats across Punjab, with the full support of the state government.
During a meeting at the District Administrative Complex in Kapurthala, attended by Dr. Akshita Gupta (Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Phagwara), Anupam Kaler (Commissioner, Municipal Council Kapurthala), Additional Deputy Commissioner Navneet Kaur Bal, and representatives of safai workers’ unions, Grewal emphasized that the Commission is actively addressing the long-standing demands of sanitation workers. “Our goal is to ensure safai workers live with dignity and contribute meaningfully to society, ” he stated.
Grewal assured that the challenges faced by safai workers, who play a critical role in keeping Punjab clean, will be resolved on priority. He directed officials to provide workers with essential resources, including uniforms, timely salaries, health facilities, and proper equipment. Additionally, he committed to resolving issues related to KYC compliance for workers’ bank accounts.
The Chairman instructed municipal authorities to address issues within their jurisdiction promptly and escalate matters requiring higher-level intervention to the Punjab Government. He also stressed the importance of issuing ESI (Employees’ State Insurance) cards to all safai workers to ensure access to free medical treatment. Furthermore, he mandated the inclusion of EPF (Employees’ Provident Fund) numbers on workers’ ID cards to streamline benefits.
