CHANDIGARH: The ongoing war against drugs launched on the directions of Chief Minister CM Bhagwant Singh Mann dealt a major blow to cross-border smuggling after Punjab Police in a joint operation with Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major drug smuggling bid by Pakistan-based smugglers after recovering three packets of heroin, weighing 3 kg, along with a quadcopter drone— which was used to drop the consignment— from near Pond of village Bhaini Rajputan in Gharinda of Amritsar, said Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav here on Wednesday.

This is the seventh such drone recovered during the multiple joint search operations by the Punjab Police and BSF in less than a week with the effective recovery of 14.5 Kg heroin.

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that following the reliable inputs about the attempt to smuggle the heroin via drone, Amritsar Rural Police along with BSF launched an intensive search operation and recovered a dismantled drone and three packets of heroin concealed beneath the road near the pond of village Bhaini Rajputan in Gharinda.

Sharing more details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar Rural Satinder Singh said that investigations are on to ascertain the identity of the Pak smugglers, who sent the consignment via drone, and also their Indian associates, who were to receive this air-dropped consignment of heroin.

Meanwhile, a case FIR No. 224 dated 01.11.2023 has been registered under sections 21 and 61 of the NDPS Act and sections 10, 11 and 12 of the Aircraft Act at Gharinda Police Station in Amritsar.
