AMRITSAR: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator , Gulab Chand Kataria, paid obeisance at sachkhand Sri Darbar Sahib late last evening and prayed for the welfare of all.
Gulab Chand Kataria has sought the blessings of Guru Sahib before launching an intensive anti-drug awareness campaign to further strengthen the war against drugs in the state. After this, this morning, the Punjab Governor also paid obeisance at Sri Jain Mandir.
Sharing information about the Pad Yatra against Drugs, Governor Punjab Mr. Gulab Chand Kataria said that with the efforts of Punjab Red Cross Society , the Pad Yatra aims to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs.
He reiterated that strict implementation of the law and continuous public awareness along with rehabilitation and employment generation should be the main priorities in the fight against drugs.
He appealed to all sections of the society to make this campaign a people's movement.
He said that this four-day campaign includes a four-day awareness walk in the border districts of Tarn Taran, Ferozepur and Fazilka , which aims to mobilize public participation against drugs.
He said that on February 9, Tarn Taran city , on February 10, from Saragarhi Memorial to Government School of Eminence, Ferozepur city , on February 11, from Sanjeev Cinema , Fazilka to Ghantaghar, Fazilka and on February 12, from Municipal Corporation Office , Abohar to DAV College , Abohar, awareness walk will be taken out.
The Governor of Punjab stressed that drug abuse is not just a local or state issue but a global challenge , which requires sustained and collective efforts. He stressed that the fight against drugs should be sustained and sincere and called upon social , religious , political and educational institutions , NGOs and other organizations to actively participate and support this mass movement. The campaign seeks to unite all sections of society towards the common goal of making Punjab drug free.
He reiterated that meaningful change can only be achieved through active participation , sustained efforts and a focus on rehabilitation and ensuring reintegration into society by providing full dignity and employment opportunities to the affected individuals.
