Punjab government's holding of events under 'Veer Bal Diwas' goes against Sikh traditions and sentiments - Advocate Dhami

AMRITSAR: Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami has expressed strong objection to the state-level 'Veer Bal Diwas' being organized by the Punjab government on December 12, 2025 in Ludhiana, terming it as against Sikh principles and traditions.

Advocate Dhami said that any action against Sikh principles, traditions, customs and values hurts the Sikh mentality and the instructions given by the Punjab government regarding Veer Bal Diwas are going to hurt and diminish the sanctity of the unique martyrdom of Mata Gujri Ji and the younger Sahibzadas. Limiting the martyrdom of the younger Sahibzadas to Veer Bal Diwas by linking them with the Bal Sangya is against the spirit of martyrdom and Sikh traditions. In view of Sikh history and traditions, the unparalleled sacrifices of the Sahibzadas of the tenth Guru, Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, are like great warriors, which is why the Sahibzadas are respected with the word Baba while addressing them.

Advocate Dhami said that the Punjab government also violated the etiquette and traditions in many religious events organized during the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, which has hurt the Sikh sentiments. The government made the Gurmat events only a government program and gave the benefit of the Punjab treasury to outside companies. He said that now under the program of 'Veer Bal Diwas', the practice of organizing competitions in schools by wearing the dresses of Mata Gujri Ji, the younger Sahibzadas and the martyred Singhs is against the Sikh etiquette.

Advocate Dhami said that as per the orders of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the Central Government had already been written to change its name regarding Veer Bal Diwas, but the government has not taken it seriously till date.
