Punjab CM Mann crossed all the limits of absurdity in the house: Bajwa

PUNJAB NEWS EXPRESS | March 04, 2024 06:36 PM

CHANDIGARH: The Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Monday launched a scathing attack on the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his unethical and unconstitutional behaviour on the floor of the house during the second day of the budget session.

Senior Congress Leader, Bajwa also accused CM Mann of creating unnecessary theatrics in the house instead of discussing real issues about the state. He made a mockery of the position of CM by asking the Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan to lock the house from the inside.

"CM Mann must explain on what constitutional ground did he attempt to get the house locked. Was that the kind of behaviour a CM was supposed to act? He has apparently gone out of his senses. He has certainly crossed all the limits of absurdity", Bajwa added.

Bajwa said that by acting in such a silly manner CM Mann had been running away from the real issues.

"In the two-year rule of AAP, the industry of Punjab has gone down from the first position to 24 position. The economic development of the state can gauged from the fact that the debt burden of the state has been spiralling under the Mann government. The government has set to take Rs 3800 crore loan in March. We wanted to raise these issues in the assembly today", Bajwa added.

The opposition leader said that they wanted the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government to discuss farmers' woes in the house today. Both Punjab CM Mann and Punjab Minister of Tourism and Culture Affairs, Anmol Gagan Mann had committed to providing a Minimum Support Price (MSP) to farmers if the centre failed to do so.

"Meanwhile,   the BJP-led Union government seems to have been reluctant to fulfil its promise of providing MSP. It's high time, that CM Mann should come forward and keep his word and give MSP as per the C2+50 % formula given by Dr MS Swaminathan", Bajwa added.

Bajwa said that the Punjab CM has not yet answered why his government let the Haryana police commit barbarity on the Punjabi farmers. Why didn't  CM Mann, who also holds the home portfolio lodge the case against the Haryana home minister Anil Vij, who directed the police to use double barrel guns, rubber bullets and tear gas shells on the farmers sitting in Punjab's jurisdiction?
